Job Ready Program (JRP) – IRCB Australia

Overview

The Job Ready Program (JRP) is an initiative administered by Trades Recognition Australia (TRA), designed to evaluate the practical skills and employability of international students who have completed a trade qualification in Australia. This structured program allows eligible graduates to demonstrate their capabilities in a real Australian workplace, while also supporting applications for permanent skilled migration pathways.

The JRP serves as a skills assessment pathway and is essential for international graduates seeking to transition into full-time skilled employment and obtain a positive outcome for visa subclasses such as the General Skilled Migration (GSM) visa.

Eligibility Criteria

To participate in the Job Ready Program, applicants must:

  • Have completed a trade qualification in Australia.
  • Hold a qualification in an occupation listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
  • Confirm that TRA is the relevant assessing authority for their nominated occupation.
  • Have completed at least 360 hours of relevant employment or vocational placement in an Australian workplace.
  • Be eligible to apply for the subclass 485 Temporary Graduate Visa.

Program Structure: Four Key Steps

Step 1: Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA)

The Provisional Skills Assessment is the initial stage of the JRP. It verifies the authenticity of your Australian qualifications and relevant employment or vocational placement.

PSA Application Process:

  • Register and create an account on the official Job Ready Program portal.
  • Pay the applicable PSA fee.
  • Submit your application online and print the assessment summary.
  • Email your summary along with all required supporting documentation.

Step 2: Job Ready Employment (JRE)

This stage allows candidates to gain practical experience by working in an approved Australian workplace relevant to their nominated occupation. You must complete a minimum of 1,725 hours over a 12-month period.

JRE Application Process:

  • Register through the Job Ready Program portal.
  • Provide details of your employer.
  • Submit documentation, print the JRE summary, and email it with all supporting materials.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • A positive outcome from PSA.
  • Hold a visa with unrestricted work rights (or have applied for a subclass 485 visa valid for at least 12 months).
  • Be employed in a TRA-recognised occupation and workplace.

Step 3: Job Ready Workplace Assessment (JRWA)

The JRWA is conducted to assess your competency and performance in the workplace. A TRA-authorised assessor will visit your workplace to evaluate whether you are carrying out the tasks expected for your occupation.

JRWA Application Process:

  • Receive confirmation of eligibility from TRA.
  • Submit all necessary information via the portal.
  • Pay the assessment fee.
  • Print and complete the JRWA summary with your employer’s signature.
  • Email the completed summary with supporting documents.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ongoing paid employment in a TRA-approved workplace.
  • Evidence of at least 863 hours of paid work completed over a minimum of six months from the start of the JRE.

Step 4: Job Ready Final Assessment (JRFA)

Once all prior steps have been successfully completed, candidates can proceed to the Job Ready Final Assessment. A successful JRFA outcome provides a formal skills assessment, which is a key requirement for skilled visa applications such as the subclass 189, 190, or 491 visas.

JRFA Application Process:

  • Sign in to your JRP portal and complete the JRFA application form.
  • Pay the final assessment fee.
  • Submit your employment records and print the summary.
  • Email the completed summary along with all supporting documents.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Successful completion of Steps 1–3 (PSA, JRE, JRWA).
  • Evidence of at least 1,725 hours of paid employment in a TRA-approved workplace over a 12-month period.
